Everything Thyroid

The thyroid is a small “butterfly shaped” gland in our throat region. It may be small but it plays a very BIG role in our health and neurodevelopment!

The chain of events goes like this; the pituitary gland in our brain secretes a hormone called Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) which sends our thyroid a signal to produce a hormone called Thyroxine (T4). Thyroxine is an “inactive” thyroid hormone and must convert to an “active” form called Triiodothyronine (T3) that is used inside every cell of the body, especially in our brain, in order for cells to work properly. However, when we are under too much stress (chemical, physical or emotional), instead of making “good T3”, our body will take an easier route and make “bad”, or, reverse T3. This reverse T3 gets into our cells and blocks our “good T3” from being able to do its job.
